- Evolution into a Comprehensive Consumer Electronics PlatformTizen is transforming from a simple operating system into a core platform that powers a wide range of consumer electronic devices, including smart TVs, home appliances, and IoT devices. It is evolving to support devices with larger displays (7 inches and above), utilizing new graphics engines that enhance both 2D and 3D rendering capabilities.
- Support for Open Source and RISC-V ArchitecturesThe platform is expanding its capabilities by supporting open instruction set architectures like RISC-V. Tizen also strengthens its ecosystem by offering enhanced support for Flutter (up to version 3.24), which helps widen the range of third-party app development.
- Integration of On-Device AITizen leverages on-device AI powered by dedicated NPU chipsets for smart TVs, allowing fast and secure execution of personalized AI services directly on the device. This integration ensures a smoother user experience while maintaining high security standards.
- Flexible Deployment of AI ServicesWith the introduction of Tizen 9, the platform now supports independent updates and version management for AI model packages. It is also exploring the use of Retriever-Augmented Generation techniques to optimize responses based on user data, paving the way for personalized generative AI services.
- Enhanced Multi-Device ConnectivityTizen strengthens integration with other Galaxy devices. For example, during a video call on a smart TV, a nearby Galaxy device might offer real-time translation. Moreover, the platform supports seamless sharing of input devices—such as keyboards, mice, and clipboards—across smart TVs, monitors, tablets, and laptops, enhancing overall connectivity.
- Sustained Updates and Lightweight Web EngineTizen ensures long-term support with promises of OS upgrades for up to seven years. It employs a lightweight web engine that consumes only half the resources of traditional engines and provides biannual updates based on the latest Chromium web standards, ensuring efficient performance on TVs and IoT devices.
- Strengthened Developer ToolsThe platform offers robust developer support with extensions for Visual Studio Code that facilitate monitoring memory usage and user events. It supports simultaneous development in native C/C++ and .NET.
