SDC24: What’s New in Tizen?
Time Interval: 00:00–27:59
- New PenWave Engine for Seamless Creativity : Tizen 9 introduces PenWave, an advanced pen-handling engine offering an infinite canvas, real-time responsiveness, and export support for SVG/PDF. Optimized using vector-based rendering and GPU acceleration, it reduces CPU load by 23% and memory usage by 51% compared to traditional engines.
- AI Avatar Framework Simplifies Virtual Agents : Tizen’s AI Avatar Framework allows developers to build virtual avatars using language models, text-to-speech, lip-syncing, sentiment analysis, and 3D rendering. The framework is modular, supporting external AI solutions and multilingual capabilities, enhancing emotional expressiveness and interaction.
- Unified Memory Profiler for Enhanced Debugging : The Tizen memory profiler now tracks native and managed memory together, with live monitoring and recording features. This enables real-time diagnostics with no performance overhead and in-depth memory allocation analysis during specific application lifetimes.
- Android on Tizen Expands App Compatibility : Through an Android container, Tizen now runs Android apps natively, achieving nearly identical GPU benchmark scores to Tizen apps and dramatically reducing memory usage. This expands the ecosystem without requiring developers to modify existing apps.
- Lightweight Web Engine Innovations : Samsung introduces LWE (Lightweight Web Engine), which uses only 52% of Chrome’s memory, while supporting core web standards. It integrates Escargot (JavaScript engine) and Wasm engine (Wus). Escargot uses only 24% of the memory of V8 (Chrome’s JS engine), and Wus achieves 5.1x speed improvements with JIT compilation.
- WebGL and WebWorker Support Added : Tizen’s web engine now supports WebGL for 3D graphics and WebWorker for multithreading, enabling background processing and better performance for complex web apps.
- Integration with Samsung Services like Bixby : The lightweight web engine powers services like Bixby on Smart TVs, demonstrating its usability in consumer devices by rendering information overlays efficiently.
- RISCV-V Support Makes Tizen Future-Ready : Tizen has been ported to RISC-V architecture, including support for over 1,169 packages and 40,000 APIs. Samsung contributed over 30,000 lines of code to the .NET runtime for RISC-V, achieving 99% unit test pass rate and 60% faster app startup.
