Error Occurring During SDK Update (UMException)

Original Created Sep 26, 2016 | Regeneration Apr 22, 2026

I'm encountering an issue while trying to install NativeToolChain through PackageManager. The installation fails with a UMException error. Here are the details:

Environment:

  • Windows 10 64-bit
  • JDK 1.8.0

Error Details: The installation process fails during the package extraction phase with the following error:

Cannot install the Tizen Studio package.
org.tizen.manager.exception.UMException: Cannot unpack the package zip File.

Attempted Solutions:

  1. Tried installing via CLI
  2. Ran with administrator privileges
  3. Reinstalled both SDK and Tizen Studio

The error persists despite these attempts. The UMException doesn't provide clear information about the root cause, making it difficult to resolve.

Problem Understanding

The issue occurs during the installation of NativeToolChain components, specifically when the system attempts to unpack downloaded packages. The UMException suggests a file handling problem during the extraction process.

Solution Methods

  1. Clean Reinstallation:

    • Completely uninstall Tizen Studio
    • Delete all related directories (including cache and temporary files)
    • Reinstall the latest version of Tizen Studio
  2. Manual Package Installation:

    • Try installing packages one by one instead of all at once
    • Monitor which specific package fails and retry its installation separately
  3. File Permission Check:

    • Ensure your user account has full write permissions to the installation directory
    • Check if any antivirus software might be interfering with the installation process

Additional Tips

  • The issue was eventually resolved by:
    • Clearing the cache directory
    • Installing packages step-by-step
    • Allowing sufficient time between installation attempts
  • Network stability can affect package downloads, so ensure a stable internet connection during installation
  • Consider checking the Tizen Studio logs for more detailed error information
